Health benefit of a snail

                               Health benefit of a snail

It must be noted that our diet is our bank account, good food choices are good investment. The foods we eat most times determine our lifespan because of the effect they take in our body. Historically, our forefathers lived longer than us because most of the foods they consumed are natural.Everyone takes something into their mouth but the question is,do they really know the health benefit of what they eat? JamesAllen once said, “A man is not rightly conditioned until he is a happy, healthy, and prosperous being.........”
Snails are one of the most harmless creatures on earth andthey have been in existence ever since the roman era. They have the natural tendency to walk on thorns without any fear of harm or molestation. In the beginning of middle age, snails enjoyed the advantage of being considered neither as fish nor meat, hence making them an ideal food to be consumed during lent. The botanical name for snail is called helix aspersa. It must be noted that there are different types of snails, some of which are, giant African land snail, garden snail, roman snail etc. There is nothing we take in that do not havadvantages and disadvantages but considerations will be given to the advantages of eating a snail.
Snails are a great source of valuable lectin which possesses anticancer property and helps in boosting the immune system and fighting against cancerous cells, the mucous exuded by this creatures contain a copper compound which helps in healing after an injury or scalding and also helps in preventing heart disorders. Their slimes are extremely rich in allantonin collagen and elastin which is beneficial for the treatment of skin disease and broken bones. The secretions also have a copper peptide which is regarded as the only source of a substance manufactured for creating creams that are useful in minimizing scars and wounds
A serum secreted by snails is an excellent source of oligosaccharide that acts as a hydrator for the skin. When applied directly on the skin, the serum works wonders for acne, enhances natural glow and protect skin cells from environmental damage.
The venom extracted from the ocean snail is highly beneficial for people suffering from addictions, depressions and Parkinson’s disease. This substance produces a synthetic version of the toxin that blocks or stimulates receptors which release chemicals in the brain. Toxins excreted by snails are valuable in stimulating dopamine found lacking in people with neurological diseases. Snails are rich source of vitamins too and highly incredibly packed with vitamins E, A, K and B12. They can be found in a very wide range of environment, including ditches, desert and the abyssal depth of the sea. Although land snails can be found more familiar to lay men, marine snails constitute the majority of snails’ species, and have much greater diversity and a greater biomass. Numerous kinds of snail can also be found in fresh water.
In addition to all this health benefit, snail are tasty, juicy, delicious nutritious and cheaper than any red meat. Snail farming can make any villager rich if he knows how to rear snails. Snail farming is relatively cheaper in Nigeria than chicken or fish farming.
